These letters truly reflect America-they are the words of everyone from struggling single mothers to senators praising their children and encouraging them to do well. These simple messages written to encourage and celebrate children will touch the hearts of readers from all walks of life.

Stewart Smith is the national executive director of Camp Fire Boys and Girls and the chair of the National Collaboration for Youth, a coalition of 25 of the largest youth-oriented organizations in the United States. He lives in Kansas City, Missouri.

Scouting For All

Scouting For All is a nonprofit organization made up of scouts, adult leaders and concerned individuals outside of scouting dedicated to ending the discrimination of the Boy Scouts of America towards gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth and adults. Scouting For All is also advocating that the Boy Scouts of America end its discrimination against girls and atheists.

  

Boy Scouts of America

On June 28, 2000, the United States Supreme Court reaffirmed the Boy Scouts of America's standing as a private organization with the right to set its own membership and leadership standards.  This reaffirmation was specifically related to the question whether the Boy Scouts of America can continue to discriminate against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youth and adults.

 

Girl Scouts of the United States

This is the world's largest organization for girls—just for girls. Serving over 2.7 million of them around the globe through a program of five levels that span ages 5 to 17.

This organization does not discriminate against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth and adults.

 

Camp Fire Boys and Girls

2000 marks the 90th anniversary for Camp Fire Boys and Girls. National headquarters are located in Kansas City, Mo., with 125 councils in 41 states and the District of Columbia. As a not-for-profit, youth development organization, Camp Fire provides fun, coeducational programs for approximately 630,000 youth from birth to age 21. Boys were invited to join Camp Fire in 1975 and now make up 46 percent of the organization. Camp Fire helps boys and girls learn and play side by side in comfortable, informal settings. 

This organization does not discriminate against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth and adults.

 

GAY Boy Scouts of America

The Purpose of Gay Boy Scouts of America is to provide a space where scouts of all ages and backgrounds can come together and discuss the idea of gay scouts.

 

National Gay Eagle Scout Association

The National Gay Eagle Scout Association was founded in August 1997 by two Gay Eagle Scouts at a Scout camp in the Albany, NY area.   Membership in the discussion group is open to all supporters of the NGESA, however actual membership in the NGESA is restricted to Gay Eagle Scouts.

 

129th Toronto Scouting Group

This co-ed troupe from Canada is open to LGBT and Straight scouts, providing five challenging programs for young people ages 5-26.  The 129th Toronto Scouting Group is a member of Scouts Canada, which is itself a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

  

World Organization of The Scout Movement

The World Organization of the Scout Movement is an international, non-governmental organization composed of its recognized national Scout organizations. Its governing body is the World Conference, which meets every three years, and its executive is the World Committee composed of elected volunteers.

The World Scout Bureau is the secretariat of the Movement. It serves national Scout organizations from its headquarters in Geneva and its six regional offices in Geneva and Brussels, Cairo, Manila, Nairobi, Santiago de Chile, and Yalta-Gurzuf.
