Third
Sex, Third Gender : Beyond Sexual Dimorphism in Culture and
History by Gilbert
Herdt (Editor)
In the 1990s, questions of sex roles and
individual identity have taken a central position in intellectual
debates. These eleven essays in history and anthropology offer a
novel perspective on these debates by questioning the place of
sexual dimorphism in culture and history. They propose a new role
for the study of alternative sex and gender systems in cultural
science, as a means of critiquing thinking that privileges
standard male/female gender distinctions and rejects the natural
basis of other forms of sexuality. The essays: Introduction

to Four Genders in the Making of Modern Culture Randolph Trumbach.

It's easy to say what Butch and Femme are
NOT, more difficult to express what Butch and Femme are,
and damned near impossible to write a F.A.Q. about Butch-Femme
devoid of any generalities. On several different discussion lists,
even as a group, we have never been able to distinctly define any
of the above terms in a way that everyone agrees with. The
final thesis is always: Butch, Stone Butch, Femme, and Stonefemme
are natural gender expressions that are of the heart, having
little to do with appearance or any stereotypical code of
behavior.
This is an amazing, wonderful website!

The Human Sexuality Collection seeks to preserve
and make accessible primary sources that document historical
shifts in the social construction of sexuality, with a focus on
U.S. lesbian and gay history and the politics of pornography. We
are actively expanding the Collection and are seeking gifts of
personal papers, organizational records, rare books, and
periodicals that reflect changing views on sexuality. Through this
program, Cornell University is working to ensure that a more
complete historical record of sexuality will be available to
researchers.

This fact sheet is from the the Sexual
Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS).
Excerpt:
SIECUS believes that an
individual's sexual orientation--whether bisexual, homosexual, or
heterosexual--is an essential part of sexual health and
personality. SIECUS strongly supports the right of each individual
to accept, acknowledge, and live in accordance with his or her
orientation. SIECUS advocates laws guaranteeing civil rights and
protection to all people, and deplores all forms of prejudice and
discrimination against people based on sexual orientation.
Recent public debates on
homosexuality have been distorted by homophobia, misinformation,
and stereotypes about sexual orientation and identity. This fact
sheet has been prepared by SIECUS staff to provide current,
accurate facts to inform a more intelligent debate.
