Cat
on a Hot Tin Roof
Everyone has a
skeleton in their closet in Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer
Prize-winning drama. Elizabeth Taylor sinks her claws into the
role of Maggie the Cat, the tormented, sexually frustrated wife of
guilt-ridden ex-jock Brick (Paul Newman). The prototypic tale of
family conflict and confrontation. In keeping with the censorship
of its time, MGM eliminated any direct references to Brick's
homosexuality, and blurred the otherwise sensual relationship
between him and his best friend Skipper, thereby confusing the
reason of why Skipper committed suicide.
