K.d. lang's third release was
her last and perhaps most successful country album before moving
in the direction of Ingenue's
swoony pop. As in the album's predecessor Shadowland,
lang belts out her fair share of Patsy Cline-style torch numbers
while bouncy country ditties like "Big Boned Gal" recall
1985's eccentric Angel with a Lariat. This was probably the
closest she ever came to being embraced by traditional Nashville
circles, picking up a Grammy for best female vocalist. Click

The American Folklife Center at the Library of
Congress was created by Congress in 1976 "to preserve and
present American Folklife." The Center incorporates the
Archive of Folk Culture, which was established at the Library in
1928 as a repository for American Folk Music. The Center and its
collections have grown to encompass all aspects of folklore and
folklife from this country and around the world.

Founded in 1888, the American Folklore Society
serves to stimulate interest and research in all aspects of the
study of folklore and folklife. The Society exists to further the
discipline of folklore studies, to improve the professional
well-being of its members, and to increase the respect given to
diverse cultures and their traditions.

Atlantic States Gay Rodeo Association (ASGRA) is a charitable and
social organization whose primary purpose is to promote the sport
of rodeo and foster country and western lifestyles in the gay and
lesbian community. ASGRA members enjoy the fellowship of numerous

LGCMA was formed in 1998 to organize and direct
efforts to enlighten mainstream culture by promoting and
supporting openly Lesbian and Gay entertainers who perform Country
Music. LGCMA works with Pride Festivals, fundraising
organizations, entertainment events, the Gay rodeo circuit and
Lesbian & Gay clubs to showcase and promote live, professional
talent. We are acting as a central clearinghouse of information
for bands, singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, professional
dancers, clubs, promoters and the media.
